Maria McKay Jones is originally from Bountiful, Utah. She is grateful to now be a part of the Rochester, Minnesota community. Whether studying voice, piano, violin--or being in a show choir when she was 8 years old called "Carousel Kids"--Maria has been involved with music since a young age. She has performed and starred in many musicals including "The Sound of Music", "Pirates of Penzance", and the opera "The Magic Flute".
Maria graduated from Brigham Young University in 1995 with a Bachelor's Degree in Music. She has studied choir and voice with Betty Jeanne Chipman, JoAnn Otley, and Mack Wilberg. She also studied piano with David Glen Hatch and Douglas Humphries.
Maria has a passion for teaching music. She loves to see her students connect music to the world around them and then share what they have learned. Maria has directed 2 elementary school choirs and was the music specialist at Wasatch Peak Academy, a Utah Charter School.Currently, Maria teaches Early Childhood Music for MacPhail Center For Music. She also is a certified Let's Play Music instructor--an early childhood music theory and keyboard prep program. She teaches these weekly classes in her home studio. Maria also directs the after school Show Choir at Friedell Middle School. And every year she conducts the Youth Live Nativity Presentation at Rochester's "Wonder of The Nativity".
Maria enjoys reading, cooking, working, and watching old movies with her husband, Steve Jones and their 10 children. (Yup, that's right 10 kids, and one very big dog named Hercules)
